Mazda CX-9 Review: MPG Ratings

The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is powerful, yet it still boasts strong fuel economy returns. All 2019 Mazda CX-9 models run on the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo four-cylinder engine, which generates 227 hp with regular unleaded fuel or 250 hp with premium unleaded fuel, as well as 310 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is paired with the SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift and Sport Mode. Altogether, this setup allows for the following MPG ratings:

  • EPA-estimated 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway with front-wheel drive*
  • EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with i-ACTIV® All-Wheel Drive*

SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY

Vernon drivers may be curious to know more about SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY, including the systems installed on the Mazda CX-9. The phrase refers to Mazda’s exclusive technology designed to boost fuel efficiency without compromising performance. The SKYACTIV®-G engine that powers the CX-9, in particular, compresses the engine’s air-fuel mixture through the four cylinders more efficiently to produce more power with less fuel. In fact, this powertrain promotes a significant increase in efficiency. Also noteworthy is the SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, which orchestrates a more efficient transfer of torque to boost fuel economy without surrendering responsiveness. Other SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY systems include:

  • SKYACTIV®-BODY, which contributes to a lighter model overall
  • SKYACTIV®-CHASSIS, which has reduced the weight of Mazda models as well
  • SKYACTIV® VEHICLE DYNAMICS wit G-Vectoring Control, which improves handling, stability, and overall performance
